“The Light Shines In The Darkness And The Darkness Has Not Overcome It.” John 1:5
Hello my friend, grab your cuppa and get cozy by your warm fire… were going deep, and your life might forever change after this moment.
About 2 years ago, I was physically, emotionally, and spiritually broken. My heart was hardened & I was resentful. In fear of getting hurt again, I built a barrier in fear of the world. I was constantly operating in survival mode. Easily angered and agitated. I couldn’t love others because I didn’t even love myself. I wasn’t happy, healthy, or wealthy in areas that mattered most, including in the areas you want most. I didn’t have a desire to be adventurous, to live life, to get out of bed, to work out, eat right, to make friendships. I didn’t think who I was at that time was worthy of a decent friendship. I felt I didn’t have a lot to offer for a sustainable friendship filled with value.
I isolated myself.
I pushed everyone and everything away because I felt that no one would be able to handle the pain I was dealing with inside. I also didn’t want to live my life as if my pain wasn’t there. I didn’t want to burden anyone with my baggage and it was so big that there was no hiding it. I knew I would only be disappointed in the end of another failed friendship, so why bother building anything in the first place. Forget being there and being a friend for others in their time of need, I couldn’t even help myself in my time of need.
I didn’t turn to drugs or alcohol to cope with my pain like my brothers and father and their fathers did before them. Instead, I turned to food to cope with my emotions whether I was happy or sad.
Food is a dangerous drug.
You can use it in front of anyone and many won’t even notice a problem.
I didn’t want to live life like that.
I felt I was doomed for life and felt that I would just have to accept that this was my reality.
I was tired of hurting, tired of not taking care of myself, tired of feeling alone, tired of trying to hard, tired of being strong for so long. I wanted to just go to sleep and never wake up again.
I was stuck in groundhog day.
Same stuff different day.
I was resentful that I felt this way.
I felt guilty.
I had so many reasons to feel blessed and happy but my mind and body wouldn’t let me live the life I wanted to live.
“What in the HELL IS WRONG WITH ME?!”
Why was it so hard to just be happy?
I didn’t want to live this way. I wanted to be happy, healthy and wealthy.
I desired a little sliver of light, of purity, of hope, of peace in my life.
I NEEDED it before it was TOO late.
Thats when I happened to find #First5.
“God was the Light I needed to dispel the darkness. First5 was the switch I needed, that I chose to turn on each and every day. “
The darkness didn’t completely go away.
There were still shadows and darkness in many areas of my life, but the Light was so bright that it was all I could see at that moment.
I chose to turn on that Light every time I felt the darkness creeping in on me.
I chose to open the First 5 App and chose to exchange whispers with God before shouts with the world each and every morning.
I pushed my pain and unresourceful thoughts aside each day to make room for God’s truths.
As I made room for His Word, my thoughts and actions started transforming. My days started to change. God started expanding my understanding of who HE is and who I AM and WHO HE CREATED ME TO BE and who I should live my life for.
I started living life with a new mind, heart, body, eyes, heart and spirit.
I started surrounding myself with brothers and sisters in Christ.
I soon realized that I had to go through it, experience it, learn from it, and now I can share it with others.
I was filled with the Light of the world.
I wanted to be an ambassador of Christ.
I want to be a disciple for the Lord.
I want to share HIS Light for others.
I called on HIM to protect me from the darkness and he pulled me out so quick my life RADICALLY CHANGED in such a short period of time that it would have otherwise seemed impossible on my own.
Jesus was with me the entire time.
I was just choosing to live life the way I wanted to, not for HIM, and so I was filled with discontentment, regret, misery, insanity, pain and discord.
He started transforming me.
I am grateful I struggled in darkness because I now see how powerful HIS Light truly is.
He showed me that there is purpose in my pain and a story worth sharing from my struggles.
I want to help share that light for others now and I invite you to experience His love and light as well.
“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” John 1:1-5
Jesus lived a life of pain and suffering but there was purpose in his pain.
He is the Light of the world and that light transforms us so we can transform others.
You just have to call on Him and he will honor your request.
He will make His presence known.
God has a work He wants to do in your life.
There is purpose in your pain and a story in your struggle.
He is the Light that can dispel the darkness.
He is there for you and can help transform you and your life.
So you can be a light for others who need His Light as well.
Everyone is on their own journey and there may be things you are going through right now that do not make sense. There are things you have been through that might not make sense. There are things you are going to go through that will not make sense. But it doesn’t have to make sense because HE makes sense of it all in the end.
Confusion leads to clarity.
Character is built in the valleys and on the journey to the mountain tops. Once we get to where we want to be it allows us to reflect and rejoice and remember how far we have come and how close we have always been to HIM.
He doesn’t change the situation you are in, He changes you despite the situation. He leverages those situations and changes your heart in those situations and you are different in those situations giving you the opportunity to be different when situations arise. It teaches you who you are and who HE IS.
Nothing in this world would have satisfied my desires and needs more than the way that God truly provides for me.
I am forever grateful for my new found faith in the Lord.
I am forever grateful for Jesus and his pain and suffering and his sacrifice.
I am forever grateful for the never ending forgiveness and unconditional love that I have access to at any given moment.
I am grateful for First 5 and Proverbs 31 Ministries.
They have incredible resources to help guide you to a deeper, more meaningful relationship with the Lord. They share His word in such a way that makes sense and makes you wanting more. They remove the overwhelming confusing feelings that might come from having to learn the The Word on your own.
They have an amazing community of women who are so supportive and uplifting as well.
I highly encourage you to check out the First5 App & Proverbs 31 Ministries, whether you are a full fledged believer or someone deep in darkness needing His guiding Light.

Maybe you need a #Reset or #Reboot in your life.
Maybe you need to be Redeemed for a Remarkable Redemption.
If you choose to give the Lord your First 5 minutes of your day, I highly encourage you to start in the book of John.
John writes his gospel to present Jesus, the powerful Son of God, who comes as God in the flesh, gives his life on the cross, and then returns to heaven as the Father- all with a view that we may believe in him and receive eternal life. His coming shows us how much He loves us, and his parting command is that we should show the same sacrificial love to one another. As you read John, be sure that you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and promise him that you will love others as he loves you.

Accepting Jesus into your life as your Savior is as simple as ABC:
Admit you have made mistakes.
Believe in Jesus and what he has done for us.
Choose to come and follow Him.
Now that He is in your heart, you have called on Him, He will show you the way but you have to SEEK HIM daily.
Expand your new faith by finding a good bible based church in your area, surround yourself with brothers and sisters in Christ, and continue to learn as much as you can about the Word so that The Word is with you always. He will show you how you can be used for His works and He will bless you all the days of your life if you live your life for Him.
We must remain in the Word daily to protect our minds, bodies, spirits and souls from darkness so that His Words remain in us when we are not near it physically.
“But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” John 20:31
An abundant life of materials is not a happy life.
An abundant life serving our God is where peace and happiness truly resides.
Being present in each and every moment as life is happening with the Light of the Lord in your life while you are living it will reward you a life worth living and sharing with others.

Building a relationship with God radically changed my life. I needed Him to help me make a change in my life and I am so grateful for this journey that I have been on this last year.
As 2018 and my 30th birthday approaches, it is my goal and resolution to continue this transformation. To continue to live the best life possible and utilize all the tools and resources available to help ensure my success and support my efforts.
One of the changes I had to make was to turn to Him instead of food in my times of need. I am happy to say that I am now replacing my cravings for food to be fulfilled with time with Him.
If you also have troubles turning to food to cope, I highly encourage you to check out Lysa TerKeurst’s (President of Proverbs 31 Ministries and First5 App) book called “Made To Crave: Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, Not Food.”
“Made to Crave is the missing link between a woman’s desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that happen. The reality is we were made to crave. Craving isn’t a bad thing. But we must realize God created us to crave more of him. Many of us have misplaced that craving by overindulging in physical pleasures instead of lasting spiritual satisfaction. If you are struggling with unhealthy eating habits, you can break the “I’ll start again Monday” cycle, and start feeling good about yourself today. Learn to stop beating yourself up over the numbers on the scale. Discover that your weight loss struggle isn’t a curse but rather a blessing in the making, and replace justifications that lead to diet failure with empowering go-to scripts that lead to victory. You can reach your healthy weight goal – and grow closer to God in the process. This is not a how-to book. This is not the latest and greatest dieting plan. This book is the necessary companion for you to use alongside whatever healthy lifestyle plan you choose. This is a book and Bible study to help you find the “want to” in making healthy lifestyle choices.”

Hopefully you love this book as much as I do and it provides you with another tool on your own transformation and journey.
